We hear of poor students copying out the whole in manuscript in order to possess a copy--not by any means a bad thing to do, however many copies one may possess. The outburst of light, however, as pointed out by Scheiner, should be regarded as corresponding to the maximum and not the minimum stage of sun-spot activity. When it was about half-full he jumped into it and tramped the fleeces down solidly. The main care must be, that the vessel it boileth in, be covered so exceeding close, that not the least breath of steam get out, else it will not be tender, but tough and hard. And to that truth no man can add, and from it no man can take away. The excess need be comparatively small, unless the interval is much reduced. Murray in the deep-sea ooze 700 miles from land, give us the extreme limit of the power of the atmosphere as a carrier of solid particles, and let us compare with these the weights of some seeds. Whenever a self-fertilising plant is thus reduced in numbers it will be in danger of extinction, because, being limited to a small area, it will suffer from the effects of too uniform conditions which will produce weakness and infertility.
